I'm slide closer to no, if you're saying the ICM case popped like an old radio battery. ICM is more like a low voltage trigger brain, If it popped it probably didn't have the insolation/Dielectric grease on installation

another question do you happen to know what volts the wires on the coil should read? because i believe i might have a short happening causing my coils to blow as soon as i crank it
Not without a manual but the pink wire on the L-98 style is 12 off the top of the head and it's probably the same for the rest everything else might be 5 reference voltage, and what year car.

it’s an 86 and i was doing some more research and everyone was saying it should read about 10 volts on the tach and a little below battery voltage on the positive but i’m getting about 5 volts on tach

Have blown a couple of coils, also if you put a new cap on Did you bring over the Ground Bridge(stamped tin piece)to new cap
i didn’t put that because my last coil didn’t have it. could that be the reason?
I can't remember a top mount HEI not having one and one of my mechanics in training forgot it and the car didn't run and if it did it didn't move
If I remember correctly it should be under coil and going to the plug out area, it only goes in 1 way so if it fits it good

but is it the reason my coils get destroyed from like one crank

I can't say, I have never heard of a pretty stout foolproof component that self destrucs in one turn.
Let's go back to beginning, we have a happy running car then something changes. Did it break it breakdown or was there a maintenance repair and now we have today.

i took it for about 1 hour drive to and back from a place then when i started it up the next day it started then randomly cut off while i was warming it up, before this about 3 days before i pumped out the transmission fluid and while using the transfer pump some squirted out on top of the distributor cap but we cleaned it up so do you think that could be the problem?
ATF on top don't think that's an issue you would have to dunk it in a bucket, a splash a wipe not an issue.
I am sure you have already done this but if you put anything in or took apart reinspect your work that all parts are in and in correct place, this includes a good look at were the IAC port is that it hasn't been pinched or chafed though like you said you feel there's a short

im going to check the wire then and i’m going to replace the distributor cap and rotor too since i have warranty from autozone i thought might as well get it out the way too
