Default help.. 34 and 36 codes on borrowed Vette

A friend wanted to sell his 87 Vette. I borrowed it so I could take it to a dealer to have a mechanic check it over. The dealer only did a rough checkover, spent 30 minutes, so I doubt they did very much to it. On the way home from the dealer I noticed it had a Service Engine Soon light on. Once home I pulled the codes and it showed a 36 only. Next day I had trouble starting the engine, it turned over and would begin to fire but wouldn't stay cranked. Once I got it started it wouldn't idle. The SES light was on again. I pulled the codes and got a 34 and a 36. The 34 is MAF circuit and the 36 is MAF burnoff circuit. I checked that the connector was firmly connected to the MAF, even removed and reseated it, and both MAF relays were connected. Would it be likely that the MAF is bad or BOTH MAF relays bad? I don't feel it's right for me to take the car back to him with this new problem so I gotta fix it myself. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh, one other question.... when the engine is cold and running in open loop, does the MAF come into play or do I likely have another problem causing it not to idle?

Replace the MAF relay's.
All your symptoms point to them. Besides, you need good rely's before you can TShoot a bad MAF. (They are a whole lot cheaper than a MAF.)
