So I replaced my Optispark last year, 2nd time... used a Cardone. Lately, I've been getting a random check engine light and then the last few days, when warmed up, the car has literally just shut off, no power on the guages, like a dead battery. Key off, back on starts up but then I get service engine soon light, solid. It also has a hard time starting when warm. Died on my at a light on the way home, same thing... key off, rough start but I got it started, sped home.

The question is, even after having 2 bad opti's in the past, I'm leaning towards that being the culprit. Other things could be a bad mass air flow sensor. Is there something I can do to check either or both before I start throwing more time and money into this problem? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

the only optispark id put in is either an NOS gen 1 optispark (hard to find), rebuilt NOS optisprk by optidoctor (with mitsubish optical sensor), or Petris vented optispark

you want the misubishi optical sensor, itt holds up under the heat of the underhood environment

the Petris optispark doesnt have the misubishi sensor, however i have to think whatever he is using holds up bc his part has a good reputation

I remwmbwr when all the aftermarket made in china optispark distributors started bragging how their part has a lifetime warranty

how about they come push the car when its stuck broken down right off of a busy freeway

and then do the grunt work to replace defective units
