Amazing hidden internal bolts (2) above steering column. Mirrors and spot lights just to see the nuts.
Do I have to pull out the dash/panels/steering/brake pedal/ floor insulation to get to these bolts?
Any other way?
Also. I happened to have several pallets nearby. I stacked 3 or 4 of them and used it as a bed to lay on. It helped to not be twisted multiple directions when i went in.
I sat on the floor next to the car and had it up in the front a little on some boards. Used a couple extensions. Booster plus master cylinder took maybe an hour... that included a couple cold snack breaks...
I have to do this too, ha. Do you guys have any pics under there for what I am looking for or will it just be blatantly obvious? I have swindled a shorter pal to assist (he is about 5'4") if that will help.
I removed the driver's seat. Nearly had to hire the neighborhood kid to get in there and get it out, but eventually I perservered. My back will be hurting for a month however.
I am 6" and not skinny. With the seat removed and wobble sockets I have done this repair several times on various C4s. Given the weather you may also want to set yourself a fan as you will be in that position for a bit.
done this job many times. remove seat, extensions and a wobble joint. not a requirement but an electric or nematic ratchet seems to help keep socket from coming off the fastener but that is just my opinion.
Do not drop one of those nuts (and then replace it with a new nut) down into your gas pedal assembly
it caused my pedal to stick at WOT - engine RPM saw 7000 before i could shut it down with the key coast to a stop and fish out the nut from the gas pedal assembly
When you get the old one out measure the hole that attaches to the Brake Lever with the new one. More than one person has bolted the new one in only to find the hole is too small and doesn't fit. Use some Duct Tape and put it across the top of the Carpet so the Nuts can't fall between. You might warm up by changing out a couple of Boosters on early C3's. The C4 will seem like a breeze.
