Evening all,
Chasing a clunk on acceleration - as far as I can tell it's only in lower gears at a sharp throttle application while already at cruising revs (2kish), auto trans. I've yet to have it clunk when I accelerate quickly from a standstill, or when in higher gears at similar revs. I'm fairly certain that it's coming from further up the driveline than the half shafts and diff (which just had its fluid changed), possibly from the rear of the transmission.
Question is - can a worn out yoke make that kind of noise? I'm not too familiar with driveline components. It's not leaking a drop of anything as I understand they sometimes do. Ever since I refreshed the ignition system (new distributor and all) the transmission has been shifting not so smoothly up and down from 1-2 and 2-1 (yeah, I'm stumped at that, too), but the clunking doesn't seem to correspond to shift patterns, just that throttle input which tells me there's slack somewhere.
Thoughts appreciated, really just wondering if I should order a new yoke with the U-joints and if so, if there's anything special to know about the kinds available to us these days.
Edit : she's a '94, if that means anything.

Reason: oops
Lot's to check - u-joints and maybe excessive pinion/ring gear lash rear differential. No leaks is a good indication of not having a slip-yoke issue. U-joints could be considered 'maintenance'.
If you already haven’t, I would check your transmission c-beam bolts for proper torque. My 93 auto Vert had a clunk and it was the c-beam transmission bolts that were the problem.

I have to check this on my 93. I only get a clunk on initial start from a stop either moving forward or in reverse. Never any other time, and I have checked my U-joints and none of them have play.
