As the title says. I was cleaning up my accel base intake and prepping for install when I noticed one of the injector ports has a small chunk missing from it. Is this repairable at all? I'm not sure I'd trust JBWeld to patch this with the constant fuel exposure.
I grabbed the injectors and did a quick test fit. These are the Bosch IIIs, from southbay. They include an extra set of o-rings with it, I did a test with both. How would these be installed normally? There's a fair bit of play here, the injector can move quite a bit up or down depending on whether I set it all the way into the base or the fuel rail. While I was at it I put one of the o-rings in the bottom of the port by itself, it's hard to say if it'll be a good seal all the way at the bottom. I think it barely seals it if it's even all around, putting it in alone let the o-ring get sucked into the opening pretty easily and dip too low. Thinking about it, because the injector has the plastic ring below the o-ring, that should bump up the sealing point above the crack. Now my question is, are these the correct injectors? I know southbay has a special type for the TPI intakes.
What happens if you install the retainer clips on the injectors? How far down the bore do they go?
BTW, I'm running those same injectors on my Miniram. The clips will fit on there, just won't turn all the way... but they end up snug enough to where they don't move. And I got mine from Southbay. 32 lb/hr.
One of the reviews for these clips says:
"These are exact replacements for the injector clips used on GM L98, LB09 TPI engines in C4 Corvettes and third gen Firebirds."
I guess I'll need to get those eventually! I'll check again come tomorrow, but thinking about it they should seal. Do you use the second set of o-rings for the injectors?
My vote is yes, use both bottom O rings and yes, use the clips. I'm running Bosch III injectors in my '89, and I use the clips with no issues. They will prevent the injector from shifting up or down from the fuel rail. Better seal for the O rings if they're not moving around
If I recall they get pushed down & seal when the rail is screwed down. I also believe one is not to use the retainers. I’ll see if I can find my info for sure. Unfortunately my Bosch injectors leaked so I bought new Accel’s.
