Default water pump question

hi,
i am replacing the water pump on my 92 lt1, i saw on another discussion here that a large amount of coolant remains in the engine and you must remove the knock sensors to get all the old cooland out as well as draining the radiator, when i removed the old pump alot of coolant (i'm guessing maybe 3 quarts or so) came out in addition to me draining the radiator. do i still need to remove the knock sensors or is it all out (the car is sitting level) ?
also do i need to coat the threads of the bolts with anything before they go in i'm assuming that they go into water jackets and what do i do as far as the cam drive do i just stick the new pump in and thats it or do i need to do something else.
i was hoping to replace the opti while i was in there but i'm not gonna be able to do that right now hopefully it will hang on till at least warmer weather.
i'm also going to be changing the fluid in the 6 speed soon i read alot of discussions as to which fluid to use it looks as though most people went with either the castrol thats only available at a bmw dealership because castrol says its a european oil or redline mtf, i'm kinda torn as which to use but it does really chap my %$# to have to buy something from a bmw dealership what are your thoughts on this one?
any helpful advise would be appreciated :flag

On the knock sensors... I asked this same question earlier this year when I did my water pump, and the general consensus was to leave 'em in. I took my car to Chevy for a coolant flush & fill after I installed the new pump. If I recall right, they said they don't take them out either.

And on the bolts... nothing special there.

Good luck!

I believe that you will need to seal the bolts that go into the water jacket. On the transmission fluid BMW is the only place that I could find the Castrol stuff. The guys in the parts department at the dealer I went to were very easy to work with. Good luck.
