im thinking about buying a 1984 c4 corvette roller i found, they originally came with the crossfire l83 engine but id like to know if a l98 from later year c4’s would be interchangeable, i looked into a lt1 and it could be a little tricky to do. also no Ls engines please, too expensive but if a standard 70s 350 engine would work i could do that too

Forget the old 70s (unless it's a 400) and most of the 80s small block chevys, get yourself a vortec 350. Any of the fuel injection wiring left? You could do a cfi to tbi swap.

i haven’t had a chance to take a look at the car and see the engine bay but the body’s in almost perfect shape, im just wondering about any issues id have with a engine swap, my guess is that there’s nothing left in the engine bay
LS swapping an 84 is your cheapest option. That's why so many people do it. Especially if you're also swapping in a 4L60e or 4L80e. If you do it right you will make money on doing a LS swap.
Pull two engines and a transmission from your local pic a part. Get an LQ4 and a newer 5.3L with 799 or 243 heads. Also get either a 4l60e or 4l80e. Swap the 799 heads onto the LQ4 6.0l to boost compression a bit. Then sell all the parts you don't need. It will cost you around $700 for all the pick a part stuff and your profit will be over $1000. Grab a 0411 PCM from a Silverado and a $100 swap harness and you're in business. It's not expensive anymore.
If you really want to be fancy add a $300 camshaft and make 450 HP all day long.
LS and 4L80e swapping my 84 was and still is still a lot of fun. Im so happy I didn't build another small block.
