Default Fuel tank problem - help needed

When I made a fuel stop I noticed something strange. The fuel fill tube had shifted about 1" backwards. It was no longer in its normal place!! I tried to push it a bit to see it the unit is loose or something but no - it was tight. After I refueled I noticed the fuel gauge was no longer working...

So, I started to think: it has been very cold, way below freezing. Last week my car was inside in a heated carage for a day. Maybe there was some water in the fuel tank and it melted during that day? After that I've been driving normally in sub freezing temperatures. This water might have blocked the fuel tank breather tube to the carbon canister or maybe the vacuum valve near the canister froze open? This might have caused over pressure or vacuum in my tank which has now bulged or crumpled.

What do you think of my theory? Do you have any other ideas and what do you think is my best action at this point?

Thanks,

Toni

looks pretty cold where you live......

anyways,

maybe,
maybe, your tank straps are "loose". check the tank from underneath (take the spare tire out, remove the license plate). maybe you can see signs of movement.
try to loosen the straps, reposition the tank and tighten the straps.
while you are there, check the wiring. maybe the tank has moved and a wire came loose or was cut.

good luck
