Hi, I'm a brand new member. I own a 1986 Corvette for about 21 years now. The car has had some minor issues in the past but I was able to work through them. The one I have now I can't figure out. I replaced the bulbs in the instrument cluster and after putting it all back together is when the issue started. When I turn the ignition to start it everything goes out. So I took the instrument cluster back out made sure all the connections were good and I still have the same results. Right now the instrument cluster is out of the car and all the interior lights come on until I try to start it. It clicks and all the lights go out, I slammed the door and all the lights come back on, then I tried to start it again, click, lights go out slam the door lights come back on. Has any of you seen or heard of this issue?
Welcome to the forum. Lots of knowledgeable help you will get here.
Your issue as described sounds like an electrical and or ground intermittent connection somewhere.
Bad grounds can cause strange things. Hope this helps, just my .02 and more will chime in to help you.
Don't give up and congrats on 21 years owning your 1986.
It sounds like you disconnected the Battery while doing your repair, even if you didn't when it happens go to the Battery give each cable and try to give tug/rotate I will bet power is restored. So then disconnect clean and tighten the connections
That was it s carter I had changed the bolt on the positive side of the battery to a longer bolt. The longer bolt wasn't tightening the cable enough, it looked tight but wasn't. Thank you very much, I just wish I would have posted this before taking the cluster and dash pad back off.

I’m hoping that when you say you went with a longer bolt, it’s not too long. If it’s too long and you crank it all the way down, it’s possible that you can puncture the battery through the side post…don’t ask me how I know this.
