Greetings, I have a set of Nitto NG 555 G2s with 3k miles on them (manufactured in 2016) and they are permanently flat spotted by sitting in my garage for years. I did buy Flatstoppers but the damage had already been done. Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement tire brand size 315/35r17 and 275/40r17) that is not prone to flatspotting? OR what may be even more helpful, can anyone tell me the tire brands to stay away from? Thanks!
Well...Nitto/Toyo is a brand to stay away from! There is barely any selection in 315/35/17, though. Michelin offers their Pilot Sport All Season 4 in that size, which will have fantastic quality and probably actually be faster in dry/warm conditions than the "summer" 555 G2 (there is never a good season for Nittos), and it will of course be fantastic in wet/cold/slush and even light snow. The only other street-oriented tire that I know if and can somewhat recommend is the Mickey Thompson Street Comp. It's an old design based on a Cooper, but it's decent quality and pretty good dry/warm performance. I'm sure it's only tolerable in the rain, and it's not for real winter conditions.
their R888R’s are still offered in 315/35r17 and do decent where the other competitors dont even offer a tire in that size anymore
is it a winter or rain tire? No. But it works well for what we use our corvettes for
nice days and spirited driving
Toyos are generally not high quality tires. There are certain circumstances where I will recommend certain models. However, this isn't one of them. The R888R is a horrendous street tire. Not only would it be terrible in rain or even cool weather, it is noisy as all hell and it's really track tire that won't last for many miles at all. And if a track tire is what you want, there are much, much faster options. They might - might - be the best streetable option in that size for drag racing, but that's about the only use case I can think of where they make much sense.
I hated my 315/35r17 Nitto NG 555 G2s, but there are not many options available in that size. Flat spotting, oversteer in fast turns, I couldn't launch hard without going sideways or instantly hitting the rev limiter. Then I tried expermenting with tire pressure. 38 psi was the sweet spot. All of those problems went away,
I have bought a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and will sell on the Nittos, Ill let you know how they perform once I test drive them. Anyone need a set of Nittos with about 2-3 k on them?
Running my 285/40/17's 555's right now just to use them up. They were pretty new when I got my car. Previous owner barely drove the car and in attempts to minimize flat spotting, kept them aired in the hi-40psi range. Scary. 50 MAX for mounting only on these. I tried them at 40psi cold a couple times, just experimenting and they rode like solid tires. Even with the comfort ride springs, everything rattled at that pressure with no real benefit to the shakes & vibes. 34psi cold is where i settled in for balance of ride quality and handling on the street. I've been eyeing the Conti dws 06 all seasons but can't get sizes for my factory 17" wheels. Moving to 18's opens more 4-season options. Rather frustrating 😒
So it's riding nicely for you now? I went back looking for this thread, I'll potentially be using that same tire in the future. Hope things smoothed out for ya 👍 Def don't want to spill any beverages, man 🍻

Thanks mate! The new Michelins ride smooth as silk man, amazing difference from the Nittos. And yes, things better be smooth when theres a beverage involved.
