WTF? Explain this
See this post for initial problem, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=485037. Anyway during lunch I had the alternator tested and it tested fine and held a 14V charge on the test machine. I went home and put it on real quick and started the car and no more problems. The alt. was fluctuating between 13.9-14.3, but well withing range, and the wire didn't get hot at all.
WTH I didn't do anything but have the alt. tested.

Sounds like in taking off the alt and reinstalling you moved a wire that was shorted to ground....I'd check over all the wiring around the alt/batt. for bare sections/rub marks or burn marks. (been there done that!)
