Coolant Fan Temp Switch Connector

I am replacing the coolant Fan Temp switch located just behind the oil dip stick on my son's 84. The plastic cover on the connector/wire that plugs onto to "switch",however has broken apart. Can anyone tell me if the other end of the connector/wire is hardwired into the wire harness or does it plug in down at the base of the block? I don't want to yank on it, but it looks like it may plug in also...Thanks for any help!

You can buy a replacement connector at NAPA that comes with a lead.
