Please bear with me, I have no idea what I need. For the past week I have been having a problem trying to get my "94" LT1 to behave...Tried to back out of a parking spot and the transmission didn't engage in "R", just coasted backward. I put the trans back into Park, and moved the shift lever back into "R", this time it worked. But when I tried to go foward, it didn't engage again, moved the shifter to Neutral, dropped it into Drive again and this time it worked. My cable ? was replaced last year (almost to the day), and the shifter hasn't felt right since. Now this...and Chevrolet service says they can't fix it...the car is too old and the parts I need are not available anywhere in the U S ...WHA??? I need some help. I stopped past Midwest Corvette in Kearney, they have done some w2ork for me in the past, and just recently replaced a CAT Back Bora system. when I told them...They said, get the car to them and they will fix it..So should I Do that or will that create other problems?
It sounds like the new shifter cable needs adjustment. Not a huge deal. The exact same thing happened to me a few months after I installed my B&M shifter. If you can jack the car up and get under it yourself it's easy to check.
Disconnect the shift linkage from the trans and use a wrench or plyers to put the transmission in park. Then put the shifter in park. Try and line up the linkage to the little shifter arm on the trans. If it doesn't line up then you just found your problem. Do this for every shifter position to verify that it is lined up for every selection.
When I did mine I had an adjustable B&M cable that made it pretty simple to adjust. But I know the factory linkage can be adjusted.
