I've seen a few posts on Ebay where someone was selling 19lb Ford injectors for use in a Chevy TPI unit. Is this common practice? Are these injectors the same? I've heard that there might me a difference in Ohms, which could either be bad for the computer or the injectors, is this a concern? I'd like to know, because I'm currently piecing together a tpi unit for my '84, but I also have a complete injector setup for an '86 Mustang--I really could use those injectors, but I don't want to use them if they aren't exactly what the computer requires as far as ohms and duty cycle and all that other stuff is concerned.
What do you guys think? Has this been done with no concerns?
I've got them on my '87. I bought the injectors from MSR. If he's reading this, maybe he can chime in as to the exact differences. My understanding was that the only two differences are that the FMS's flow a little more than the Chevy's (for comparably flow rating), and that the FMS's cost a lost less.
24's are common place here on the forum. if you have a bone stock 86 car i'd say go for it since you have them laying around. the 19's should have plenty of volume for your app. & the 02 will correct minor changes. at the very most you might have to increase fuel psi but i doubt you'll even have to do that.
Yeah the FMS injectors work fine, and are cheaper than the rest. With #19s you might want to buy an AFPR and turn the pressure up just a little to tune it, with #24s you might want to turn the pressure down just a little.
Many people here use the Ford injectors. I am running 30lb. FMS injectors right now. The only difference I know of is that they are rated at 38.5 psi and most others are rated at 43psi, so they do flow a little more than others. Other than that, I have noticed a little more noise coming from them than my old Accell's, but most people here seem to prefer the FMS injectors over the Accell's just for reliability issues and pricing.
That pretty much answers my questions. I'm going to dig out my injectors and have them checked out and cleaned up. I'm also going to upgrade my fuel regulator to an adjustable one since I've got to rebuild it anyway.
The Ford Motorsport part number is FMS-m9593A302. I changed the injectors on my 86 about 5000 kilmotres ago, and no problems. They are a little shorter than the originals but fit and work just fine.
Vader how do you turn down the pressure? im about to but the #24 in my 93 LT 1. I heard Two Things, one is not do anything and the other is to adjust fuel pressure. Thanks.
I ran the FMS's on my 89, no problems great upgrade. I have a set of FMS 19's if your interested. I bought them off a collegue when I had my TPI. He took them out after 7000 or 8000 km to upgrade for his blower. I never used them, now I have the LT1.
