Default Could a guy?

Purchase an early C4 and put a performance intake and Holley Sniper on the car?
Wouldn't this be a better option on an 84 or an L98?
Throw on some decent heads, headers/exhaust, lower-geared rear end and a cam?
Might be a fun toy.
I'm sure someone out there has done this.

Yes, I have done it, with a Edelbrock EFI system, and not a Holley. While I was at it, the cam, valvetrain, heads, and a full exhaust system was replaced too. I have an L98+Z51 car. It definitely is a fun toy, and it really woke the car up when I did the modifications. No traction control or stability control or other nanny systems that get in the way. It's exhilarating and fun, while being unique-no other car has the charm and special 80's style like the C4. However, this is where I burst the bubble because the idea of it sounds very appealing, at the end of the day, it's better to just buy a C5. It's practically the same cost and the C5 is better in every way. Figure 7k for a decent L98 C4. You'll be at 7k for costs on an engine, EFI and it's implementation, exhaust, transmission upgrades (clutch(manual)/shift kits/power/higher stall/beefed up internals for autos), and unforseen costs, like suspension bushings, fuel pump+lines, u joints, vacuum hoses, because the car is closing in on 40 years old. You're near the cost of a C5 at that point. Don't forget the cost of labor for shop work, and especially time. Your time. And you'll spend a lot of it, chasing issues. And it won't be any more valuable because C4's aren't desirable unless its a GS/ZR1/special something. I did it on mine to learn how to work on cars. I have spent much more than 14k total. Was it worth it?

The answer was on a kids face this morning when I flipped open the headlights. You can't put a price tag on happiness.
