Air Intake Temp plug replacement

Changing the air intake plug on my 1985 c4. Went with newer style plug. New plug has 2 black wires. Original lead wires are black and red. Does wire color matter splicing in new plug? My go to is to orientated the plug to mirror the old based on how it attaches to the sensor based on clip. Does that sound right?

Any time you're replacing connectors or matching wiring match the appropriate cavities of whatever to what the wiring diagrams indicate as OE.

Are you referring to the MAT sensor?

Whatever the sensor is called that mounts to the bottom rear of the plenium.
