My upper bolt is wrong, and I need the threaded Torx headed bolt that goes into the alternator. Anyone know the dimensions of this bolt?
I have seen people put a through bolt with nut, but you can move the alternator if bolt isnt thick enough. But, there is clearly threads on the bracket. So, I imagine GM made the bolt thread in for a reason.
I need the bolt or the dimensions to replace the through bolt nut set up which was thin.
M10x1.5 for thread diameter & pitch I'd think if the alternator is correct for the car. Maybe alternator isn't correct for the car? That matches the through bolt which is nutted.
I will buy one. Its threaded. The bolt I have, which I found later mikes out at 9.875 mm.
It does not screw in the threaded part.
Its an AC Delco alternator
I took the bolt.I do have that looks just like the OEM And it was the size You said. So I think my bolt size is 12x???? Maybe it was retapped sometime ago.

Here's any type of CS144 that was used and you'll see that anything threaded is M10-1.50
I put the bolt I had in hand, the torx 50 head and it was a M10 1.50. The hole in the alternator where it goes is not, anymore. I am getting a checker tomorrow/Friday, and will find out for sure what it is.. Something strange for sure.
I think I figured it out. The alternator is not threaded for a bolt. The bracket for the accessories is, but its larger than M10-1.50.
So two things, OEM bolt doesnt thread into bracket for accessories. I will find that thread with my bolt size checker.
Alternator is either not threaded or never had a sleeve put in or wasnt threaded.
Also, is this the correct size bolt? This threaded into a M10 1.50 at the hardware store.
Figured it out, wrong alternator was sold to me.. I found receipt, AC Delco 334-2318. No correct for car and the bolt isnt threaded in the housing.
Thnx for the link to pics of housings, as it verified mine was wrong.
If I have time, I will take it off and replace it. I am getting ready to travel and unfortunately its not on the priority list right now.
Replaced the alternator. Part store wouldnt replace it as it was out of warranty.. So, I have an extra alternator that needs a new housing, or a time cert to allow the proper bolt to be used..

You maybe wouldn't need a 'TimeSert' but just a metallic 'RivNut' inserted so that the rim/shoulder would pull towards the bolt head to secure it. I'd maybe question the parts store management if you've documentation/receipt that shows an actual incorrect application.
