The return filter was original and not added on. I just assumed all 87's had them.
They all had them, my 86 conv. has one. This wasn't a Z51 specific piece.

and is available in any body style and transmission (ie not limitied to 4+3 Coupe like Z51 were)
Are you saying that the Z51 was only offered with a manual transmission? I thought it was available with the auto, too.

The only real difference between an 87 Z52 Auto Coupe and an 87 Z51 Auto Coupe, were the springs. The shocks/steering ratio/frame supports were all the same. They SAY the steering is different, but I've checked it and my wheel turns the same as an 87 Z51.

In certain years, yes. My 86 auto has Z51, but i dont believe the 87 autos could get it.

This is what get confusing about talking about z51 package. the Z51 package changed quite a bit over the years, 84-86 auto Z51 were available. I was answering the Z52 package question difference which the Z52 was only available in 87 & 88 which the Z51 was limited to 4+3's.

The shocks had a different valving as well and the other small difference I mention in my post above. The steering ratio 13:1 is the same on z51 and z52 cars.

I don't think the fuel return line damper was added until 86 or 87. Also, some of the extra frame braces were later added to the non-z51 cars.

Ride height should be the same.. Z51 just has a lower front air dam.

I think they just had a bunch of leftover Z51 pieces, and said, "Aww what the hell, it can't hurt, lets' put em on all the cars."

Although the stering ratio was the same The Corvette Black Book says that the power steering cooler was available only on Z51s in 87 & 88, not on Z52s.

Another overlooked Z51 option is RPO #GL0 Standard for all model year Z51s.
Undocumented by GM but a well known fact to Z51 insiders. RPO #GL0 (Great Looking 0wners) :lolg:

Yeah, my car has the GL0 RPO too... :seeya

But should mine have the steering cooler? Also what should an '85-86 pull on the skidpad (with 17" rims)

It probably went more along the lines of "we still have bunch of leftover standard braces, let use them up before we make the convertible bracing standard"

Neither came with 17"s and the tires you use are hopefully not Gatorbacks. You should still be able to pull .87g's. It depends more on your car and your cars tires and the wear on the suspension components.

It's got some kind of aftermarket 17" wheels that I plan to swap out for ZR1's... the suspension is all pretty good, in fact it should have new ball joints tomorrow. Shocks are new sensatracs all around and everything else is stock Z51.

The back tires will be GSC's and the fronts are yokohama A520's
