Opinions on B&M Shift Improver Kit
Also...is it worth getting a deep pan? I'm just looking to improve things a bit better.

Does it work ? I don't know. I just remembered that I saw it in my wanderings around the web
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-70380
in the Jet software tables, there are Normal, Performance and Manual mode entries
Pick up the aluminum accumulator for 1-2 and forward. Use the lightest settings on the VB plate to start with upon install and in the 1-2 accumulator (aka NO WASHERS)...one can always increase shift firmness, trying to pull it is a pain in the ***. I advise buying the HD plate from Transgo too. Sonnax has a nice HD shift valve, unsure if retros back to this early of a trans. You will have to research it.
https://transgo.com/product-details/4l60e-hd2/ Yes, using that gold colored shim for the 1-2 shift servo helps clean up the up and downshift of the unit. It is a ***** to get in fully and lined up. I do like Superior's billet OD servo, turns it into a crisper shift and quicker downshift.
Last I did was this spring on my '01 Burb, 4L60E but it was a PWM converter lock. Now it is just ON/OFF. Far better. Sure, pick up a fresh filter while there and a quality pan gasket. Late units had a drain plug stock and were one quart deeper. Unsure if clears a car lowered, I plan to test from a core 65E I have laying around on my 700R4. Same pan/gasket. 99-02 trucks for sure had it.
Hope it helps, let me know if you have more questions.
