Default Removing Climate Programmer

Hey guys,

I've read all I can on this topic and I know what I have to do in order to address my climate control problems. I've seen the Batee video on removing the programmer by working off the press-on washer with a pair off neednose pliers.

I've take out the driver's seat and removed the 7mm screw holding the unit to the firewall, but that's where I'm stuck. Currently there is no way I can access the vacuum lines with bundles of wire looms in the way.

So my question is, am I supposed to drop the unit down past all the wires in order to access the washer? I didn't want to start yanking on anything and make matters worse. If the unit drops down a few inches it would make all the difference. The unit itself is pretty tight between heating vent and the steering column as it is; a bit of force at this point seems to be called for but I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks in advance...

I just wiggled it down-not a lot of force needed, until I could get to the vacuum connector. I didn't even take the seat out.

I pushed the gas pedal down to the floor and it dropped several inches more.

Thanks all. Glad to know it just has to drop further.

Help!

After taking a file to the corner of heating duct I was able to lower the programmer about halt way. The thing is now there doesn't appear to be any more slack in the vacuum lines and this prevents me from lowering it further.

As is there is no way I can tease out a little washer when I can hardly even see it. Something tells me this shouldn't be this frustrating. I changed my heater core last year and that seems a breeze compared to this.

What am I missing?

If I remember correctly I did unplug that wire harness that plugs into he steering column-it should be the one by your fingers in your pic.

Thanks drive it --

I'll check that out but l believe wires aren't the problem with the lack of slack in the vacuum lines. And I've read a bunch of accounts of removing the programmer and I've not heard anyone mention removing wire connections, but hey, if it works, I'm game.

I only need another 2, 3 inches...

Well I went back and the brown vacuum line has reached the extent of its extension. Removing that harness is unnecessary, at least in my case. What I'll try next is to work a small screwdriver or like instrument under the nut and hopefully pry it up. Any other ideas most welcomed.
