1986 C4 Headlight Motor Problems - Likely electrical?
I am 26 years old and decided to get a C4 as my “fun weekend car”, and got a 1986 C4 convertible.
I am having issues with my passenger side headlight motor. When I pull the switch to flip them up, the driver’s side goes up (albeit a little slowly) and the passenger’s side doesn’t do it at all. However, when I pop the hood and jiggle the relay, with enough jiggling and fumbling with it, it’ll eventually turn. So it’s not the wheel but it seems to be an issue with the wiring, I figure a loose connection somewhere. I’ve replaced the relay and that hasn’t solved the issue.
Now the kicker is when I do that to put up the passenger side headlight, when I am done driving and I go to flick the switch to lower them, the PASSENGER lowers on its own and the DRIVER is now stuck open and I have to manually turn the motor dial to get it back down. But if I hadn’t jiggled the passenger side relay to open it up before the drive, then when I press the switch, the driver’s side will go down no problem.
Help me out here, I got this car to also learn how to problem solve the minor stuff like this myself and I’d like to give it a go before taking it to a mechanic to figure out the electrical issue here. Can anybody guide me through?
