Had this fall off today and knock off my serp belt. I’ve done air pump delete including all of the pipes with it, egr delete, and new headers and new exhaust. My thoughts are this is something from one of those I missed.
Muffler for the air pump. When the air pump is not needed it pumps it overboard through the muffler you are holding.
On my 87 it is mounted below the air switches close to the block.
