Which hei module do you guys use? I haven't had to buy one since the 1990's and always bought a genuine GM, they were 60+ dollars then, but not available anymore.
Any quality suggestions? I see a lot of cheap stuff for under $20, I want to do this once, and forget about it for a while... thanks
Try to get the same p/n you have (or equivalent GM p/n).
There's a long winded explanation behind this regarding something called spark latency.... but if you get some random aftermarket one, it can throw your ignition timing off. It's correctable, but there's a complicated procedure behind it that also requires you to re-tune one of the spark tables the chip.
If you get a genuine GM one, the odds are it's going to be compatible with the spark table in question.

Thanks, that's good to know, I never heard of that and it makes sense, hence why I always stuck with a genuine GM module
Well my parts came today, minus one spark plug, RockAuto only had seven? Anyway every AC Delco boxed part is made in Mexico, except the HEI module which I'm pleased about that. On some of my other forums that I'm on and some friends of mine also say a lot of ignition aftermarket companies make that stuff overseas now too...This was my first time using RockAuto, they're not too bad I guess...
One quick thing, the module I pull out had this tin cover on top of the module? Is this a factory item and should I use it over the new module? Thanks
Yes, it is a factory item! Might depend on who you ask, I would install it on your new module! Don't forget to add some heat transferring compound/paste to the bottom of the new module (Don't install dry!!!). It will work without the tin shield, if you don't use it...I'd happily buy it from you! Good luck👍

Thank you, I appreciate your info. I will install when my heat sink compound comes tomorrow, the General put a 30yr old tube in the box! Lol
If it came from the factory, it goes back on, has to be some reason for it. Maybe it acts as some kind of heatsheild, there is an air gap all around except around the mounting holes.
