Looking for options on the fog lights. Mine is a 93. Not looking for anymore than a good fog light that is an easy plug n play, and is better than tbe candleain there right now.
thnx
I did LED headlights and 35w HID fog lights from DDM Tuning on my 84. They aren't exactly plug and play. But it wasn't too bad to put them in. I prefer HID's to LED's for fog lights. They are brighter, cost less and more choices for temp/color. But I will say they are a little too bright. I would never use HID's for a hi/lo beam bulb because of the time it takes for them to get to full brightness. But for fog lights it doesn't hurt to take a few seconds to fully come on.
Thnx, I may look into the HID.. Headlights are Osram and glass housing with Daniel electronics assistance to get proper voltage.. Very bright, for its era housings.
As far as HIDs, any particular brand, or part number..
A couple things though. Don't get the 55 watt. HID's by design are 35 watt. The 55 watt versions are just ballasts that have increased output to the same bulb. This shortens the lifespan of the bulb a lot. And the 55 watt versions aren't much brighter. The 35 watt are almost too bright for fog lights anyway. These aren't "drop in". I had to take a small jewelers file to clean up the locking tabs in the light housing for the DDM bulbs to lock in place. You also have to wire in a ballast. None of this is hard. But just something to consider. Also the cheaper DDM HID's take a full 3 seconds to get to full brightness. This doesn't bother me at all for fog lights. But it really bothers some people. For fog lights you want lights that have a yellow color to them. I went with 3000K.
Dollar per lumen you can't beat HID's. The kit in the link is only $35 and that comes with a lifetime warranty. As far as that brand I've used DDM on ATV's for a long time. I have had a ballast fail in that application after a few years. I sent the broken ballast back and got a new one no questions asked. Even though I had it installed on a Yamaha 660 Raptor.
So , no harness is needed?
It sort of says I will not need it.
I used the harness that came with the regular kit. I just cut and soldered the plugs that they sent onto my harness to power the ballasts. Because C4's have a weird plastic piece on the back of the plug for the bulb for the fog lights, I had to make those fit on the DDM wiring. I just used epoxy and it worked fine.
Like I said before these are absolutely not drop in. But if you don't mind a little winter project the price is right and they are ridiculously bright.
Here is a before and after pic comparing the factory bulbs to the HID's.
Soldering is easy. If you have pics of what you did, that would be great. My C4 is a project, nothing more than a project every time I drive.
Today, the blower motor quit. AC was fine ,, then I filled it up, and fan no worky.. Its the BCM , as everything else was working.
But, its always been a project since 1996.
I wanted to make a correction. In my earlier post I said these were 3000K. I went back and looked and I was wrong. I got the 4500K Ultra bulbs for $5 more. So my kit was $40 not $35.
I had to run up to the garage anyway so I took some pics of the fog light wiring and ballast.
This is how I mounted the ballasts.
A few years ago I was having a hell of a time trying to track down electrical issues with the factory headlight motors. I got a little mad so I ripped everything out. I pulled out all the relays (ripple current and isolation) and most of the lighting harness for the front of the car. Then I made a new harness with an aftermarket fuse box. If the factory plugs were in good condition I reused them. But if they were questionable I replaced them. But this last pic is the fuse box I put in. I have a basic 4 pin relay in here for the fog lights.
Awesome thanks. So you bought the basic ki and 4500K bulbs. Okay.
My headlights dont spin when super cold. I realized the wires were corroded at the plugs. Repined and used dielectric grease.
