Default What Mufflers?

Still chasing this vibration/noise in my 85. My mechanic had it on the rack and called me to come help him look for the problem. We looked at everything and I mean everything. The only thing unsecured are the mufflers. They are the nearly 40 year old original that were patched up when I purchased the car over 7 years ago. I'm at the place of the process of elimination. I am nearly 100% sure this is it. Yes I've thought that before.

After all of that what mufflers that are performance but not obnoxiously loud would you recommend for an 85 base coupe auto with around 75k miles?

Thanks and thanks for looking,

Joe K

Is it a tiny buzz or rattle, that you can hear with motor running or if you smack with hand or mallet. If so the double wall exhaust pipe is separated get a large Channel lock with the car running and rattling squeeze in. Various spots and when the rattle stops you can either give a hard squeeze or put a Dimple with a ballpien hammer in that spot.
No need to replace the pipes unless they are ugly failed

I have never had a real problem with Walker but unless things have changed with Walker you get 2 exhaust tips instead of 4 but that really doesn't since the 85 only has 2 working tips the other 2 are fake

Best cheap exhaust for good flow on a stock L98 may be a takeoff true dual system for the LT1, but it's not exactly 100% direct fit. Friend of mine has this for a 383 and it works great.

I also had an exhaust system that was Hedman Hedders, TPIS Y-Pipe, to 3" high flow cats (magnaflow) and a magnaflow stainless catback. Worked/sounded/ran nice and made great power & torque on a mild 350.

Thanks everyone. Going with the Walkers. Fair price, around $210 for the pair shipped. Already have a shop that I've used before to install them. I'll let you know how it goes.

I had the walkers and they were silent on my 84. But all 4 tips do work, it's just one set is full flow and the other has some check valve or is restricted and only flows at higher rpms. The 84 ones are quieter than the 85 up ones and the 84s have turndown tips to replicate stock.
