Default Cylinder head questions.

Currently rebuilding my 89s L98. Have a bit of pitting in the head right where the cylinder ring on the head gasket would sit. If it cant be machined out (it may be about 1/16th in deep) (can get my fingernail stuck on it) I will have to get new heads. Anyone have any recommendations? (in Cali have to smog and not trying to build a race car) was looking on summit and there's a few reasonably priced. What should I look for? Also is the 89 L98 a roller engine or flat tappet?

89 is a roller engine.

Bring the heads to a good machinist. Let them make the decision.

1/16th of an in is astronomical in terms of "pitting"; that's over 0.060". I seriously doubt that it's actually that deep. Machine shop will let you know what you need to do.

They got dropped off at motor machine this morning haven't heard anything bad yet. He is cleaning. Pressure testing and machining for just under 400$ for the pair.
