Default Potential horsepower??

If I stroked my LT4 to 383, ported the heads and intake, bigger TB, and headers, what do you think the RWHP would be?

anywhere from 250 to 500. It depends on many many other aspects. Comp ratio, cam, tranny, exhaust, tune, ect ect ect. Can you give us any more info. I know guys with 355's making close to 400 at the wheels.

It's already dynoed around 320 at the wheels with minor mods. For the most part it's a stock LT4.

Not sure I guess. I was thinking about the hotcam. I called an engine shop today and they get approx 2500 to stroke it. I guess that the cam would be based on that. I need to learn more about this so I go in there educated.

Here's the shop I'm looking at http://www.fowlerengines.com/index.htm

Well a 383+ci engine usually likes a cam with around 220 degrees of duration on both sides, so id say the hotcam would be the minimum cam id run with (218/228).

I dont remember GlockLT4s combo when he had a 383 with Hotcam, you might want to run a couple searches for his old Tech engine threads and read that stuff.

But i would imagine you would be in the 400rwhp range.

Cool. So that's the bottom end work. With ported heads, ported intake and a bigger TB along with headers, whattya think?

Nice! That would certainly be plenty of power! Thanks!

Ok, a few things first...

1) cam lift is determined by a combination of engine displacement, engine speed at peak HP, and head flow.

2) cam duration is determined by a combination of engine displacement and engine speed at peak HP.

3) cam lobe separation angle is chosen to determine the rpm spread between peak TQ and peak HP (there is no real formula for it though)

4) not knowing what cam, what engine speed, what head flow, what intake flow, what exhaust size, what compression ratio, what weight crank, rods, pistons, flywheel, etc makes it impossible to say what kind of power the engine will make. I've worked on 350's that can only flow 205 cfm on the intake side but make 410 flywheel HP. I have also worked on 350's that flow 390 cfm on the intake side and make 850 HP @ 9700 rpm.

I have: 383 Lt-1
AFR 195 heads
TPIS ZZ-x cam .558 .558 238 238 112
long tubes

I would assume this 500 HP estimate from the computer program is flywheel horsepower.
