Hi RicG - a fellow Queenslander here who found your informative post amongst the "hundreds" I was looking at to sort out my own Standard LX320 pick up coil dramas yesterday. What a bloody pain - my mechanic and I thought we had lost our marbles after doing everythong according to the book for base timing and coming up with a car that ran like a turd no matter what we did. I even questioned the timing light in the end !
I live in Tin Can Bay so I have the same difficulties as yourself accessing parts and when I do the added postage cost is also prohibitive. Rock Auto, in the 18 months I've had the car have been good but they certainly "screwed the pooch" on this one.
Regards
Gary
@Gary TCBStandard LX320 is not a suitable option despite it being listed as one. I went through the same troubles a few weeks back. Try WVE 4P1209, there are a few on Ebay.
Thanks ramahon - I ended up getting a refund (store credit) from Rock Auto which I appreciate but before that I placed an order for the only other option they listed, which was "Famous brand" on Wholesaler closeout, because the photo in "Info" looked very much like a WVE 4P1209. Given how long it takes to get stuff delivered to Australia I might also buy a WVE 4P1209 from Ebay as you suggest and if both are indeed suitable then I will also have a spare (which I never hope to need).

The gear on the bottom of the distributor can be upside down. it is cut in a manner that makes it polarized to being installed in one direction. When replacing the pick-up it has to come off. Was it marked and re-installed correctly??
I can't remember exactly but it is a (I think) 15° difference.
The pickup coils that workfor me have an H shape symble on them like two hitching post facing each other.

Hi Vets-Vet - I very much enjoyed reading your and Agent 86's previous informative posts about the deficiencies of Standard LX320 coil pick ups and they certainly helped me to understand exactly why my mechanic and I were getting nowhere with my 88. I am confident now that when my new pick up coil eventually arrives (with a H shape symbol) my mechanic can succesfully install it and together we can finally set the timing properly again.
As they say in my country - good on you mate.
