My battery went dead on my car and so i charged it. I shut one of the doors and both doors locked. I got a spare set of keys and opened it. I started the car it ran fine but the SECRURITY and passive lights are on. Also, the interior lights wont turn off. Any ideas?
I am the second owner of this car and the guy who i bought it from had a crutchfeild car alarm added but the removed. Therefore, i have never had transmitters just alaways unlocked it from the door.
I first would call Chevy and see what they say.
Second I would disconnect the battery and connect it again but with the key in the ignition (not on but in).
You might want to even buy, Eklers sells them, a transmitter and follow owners manual to program the system. Do you have a owners manual?
If interested in bypassing the GM VATS / Passkey system for any reason, here's how to:
-Take a digital volt ohmeter and measure the resistance of the pellet in the key(s).
-Run to Radio Shack or an alarm installation center and obtain a resistor of the same value.
-Drop the driver's hushpanel and locate the wires going to the lock cylinder.
-disconnect the inline connecter and connect in the resistor (solder it in if possible for perfect connection)
This way, the passkey decoder module "sees" the right value everytime, allowing you to never have to suffer with ailing lock cylinders, keys or poor connections - leaving you stranded and not in a good mood. Of course a thief could now "peel your column open" and ****** your car, but he thinks it's passkey protected and won't try to fool with it. (?!) Now you can also have your keys copied cheaper at a keyplace without the chip in it.
