Default Crumbling Polyurethane Bushings

I have heard of crumbling poly bushings but never had personally seen this happen until today. I was evaluating the front brakes on an old Ram truck I have & found the Energy Suspension poly bushings I put on 10-12 years ago are crumbling. Couldn’t get ahold of ES but on their site it said they have a “new 7 year warranty”…

Since I was looking at Prothane bushings for my C4 I gave them a call. They returned my call within a few minutes & I was able to speak to their one & only technical support individual. He said he’s been there 18 years & in that role & has never heard of that happening with their bushings but if it did they have a lifetime warranty.

I have learned the hard way “lifetime warranty’s” are only as good as the company backing them but at least it’s something & better than ES.

"Lifetime Warranty" is primarily a marketing ploy. While those products that offer such warranty are typically better than "Limited Warranty", the fact is most things don't last a lifetime.

At least those bushing are easy to replace.

The bushings in the C4 suspension are a royal pain, especially if you don't have the proper press and associated equipment. I installed that other brand...the Australian brand on my dog bones. Other than their site stating they are a different material; I don't believe anyone really knows whether they last longer than the poly bushings. Go with whatever you feel is best.

Nice! I've never seen it either, but I have gone and looked and noticed that the poly bushings I installed on my Explorer 6 years ago, were magically gone. So I missed all the fun... just a big void... haha...

Popped the poly bushings out & put rubber back in. I’m a bit gun shy of ever using poly after this. Definitely going to have to look at Delrin for the front of the Corvette. I was considering SuperPro bushings but honestly I’m not so sure now. Amazing how bad they are vs a couple I hadn’t used.
