My Notes on 96 Vert Fuel Filter Change
New to me 96 LT4 vert. Changing ALL the fluids/filter.
Had a 86 and 94 previously and vaguely remember changing the fuel filter on one or both. Read online some do this in 30 minutes. Took me 2 hours even with using a lift, but Im old, weak and have poor vision.
1. Removed one leg of vert. frame X crossmember to gain acces. 14 bolts/nuts. Used a clamp to hold it in place when reinstalling it.
2. Pull fuel pump fuse and run engine until out of gas to relieve gas line pressure. Forget how C4 fuse location is readily accessible unlike older generations.
3. DEFINITELY perform the change when gas is at a low level in the tank. 1/8 full.
4. Detach filter which is behind the preCat on passenger side. I detached the return gas line at this location as well.
5. Detach the fuel lines on top of the engine and pull the lines and filter upwards from the engine bay. This will allow access to the top connection of the fuel filter.
6. Install new filter on gas line and wiggle the lines and filter back down from engine top.
7. Filter connections were removed with an adjustable wrench and 16mm open end. Top lines need a quick disconnect gas line tool.
On my 96 I also sourced and changed the little green o-rings on the fuel lines connecting to the filter. They were not easy to find. I don't know if they really needed changing but it was the easiest time to do it. Dan

I don't understand the 'hard to find'? GM# 22514722 or ACD# 217-452 should be on most dealers shelves or ACD jobbers shelves. After-market? Use those numbers as a reference to interchange.

I agree that they should not be. I had to go to two GM dealers to get four if I remember correctly. First GM dealer I called was out of them. I never have really known what what an "ACD jobber" is. Dan
