I have an an ancel ad 310 code reader. Also have adapter cable to go from reader to pre 96 vehicles. However, if memory serves, the 94 I have has an obd 2 port but still reads as obd 1. So do I need a different adapter? Or will the obd 2 reader work? And will the adapter cable work on our 93? Both cars are in put away for the winter so I can't plug them in and find out. Thanks for the help

That is an 'advertised' OBD2 only device looking at Ancel promotions. You've used this AD310 and a cable on the '93? I'd say if a recent purchase you return. Neither the '93 or '94 require a reader for diagnostics!

Bought it some time ago but haven't used it. Have other vehicles that are post 96 so I'll use it eventually maybe. As far as diagnosing, I've used the jumper method but it's kind of a pain and thought there may be an easier way

There's nothing easier than jumping if you use a length of wire with correct mating terminals crimped on each end. You said you have an adapter? Show us and include brand/part number.

Turns out I have two cables. No brand/part # on either I can see. Bought off ebay
So the other end of your adapter cables are 'female' to accept the 'male' terminals of the OBD2 Code Reader? That being so and 'IF' the AD310 is actually capable there should be a way to select OBD1 or 2 in the setting with instructions in the pamphlet you have that came with the AD310. From what I read the AD310 will NOT do what you want. If it will your adapter cable should work for the '93. The package says it will do EOBD also which is 'other' branding for required OBD vehicles.
I don't know if it will work or not. Both cars are put away for the winter and too hard to get to after mouse proofing to get at. I guess I'll find out in April. Thanks for the assist, though. May be getting back to you in a few months
