Hey so if anyone could lend me a thought or 2 on this I have a 88 corvette and my problem is that my dash goes completely dark unless I have something compressing the bottom left hand side of the cluster and even then it seems to go out sometimes and and I have to give it a small love tap to get it working again. I’ve completely tooken it apart and can’t find anything that could be an issue. Should I get it rebuilt or is there a better or orthodox way of fixing I just really don’t want to throw 300 bucks at it if I don’t have to.
If tapping it and/or pressing on it makes things work fine you simply have a loose connection. The problem will be finding it. You'll have to pull the dash to send it off anyways, so try to do it yourself. Batee definitely has a lot of great info on its site.
Watch their videos. Take your IP out. Watch the videos again. Take it apart, watch select videos a third time - by now, you'll know what you're looking at. Find any connections and tweak them ever so slightly to make them connect better (dont break any). You'll probably find the problem. A multimeter would be helpful for checking continuity too.
As the other guys mentioned, check out Batee if you are handy. Otherwise, bite the bullet and send it off to get fixed.
I have touched every part on my 86 and sent my dash off to be repaired. I didn't want to deal with it. Besides, the transmission swap was in progress and there was time.
