Hey, I got the hot cam installed a few weeks ago, and this weekend I was moving the car and noticed a small amount of oil under it. Looked up under it and noticed it coming down in front of the oil pan. Any ideal of what it is coming from? I havent had time to ramp it and look yet :cry Am going to try to look this evening. Any help would be great.
From what I have researched, the water pump drive gear assembly really needs the protective sleave (tool) when installing the timing cover in order to not screw up the seal (I bought mine from SPX kent moore). Oil may be traveling if you did not use this tool. Another possibility, and easier fixed, would be a new O-ring on the crankshaft position sensor at the bottom of the cover on the passenger side. A new o-ring is highly recommended there.
For those of you who have replaced the water pump drive seal, did you have to pull the timing cover? Or were you able to remove the old one with the cover on?
After my recent rebuild, it looks like (even though I was careful) that I must've snagged that water pump seal while installing the cover. RATS!
[EDIT].... Nevermind, found a post about it. Forgot that the timing cover had the notch to pry it out.
