Old Timer Struggles With Brake Job
Ive been wrenching over 60 years and lost count of the number of brake jobs I have done. I recently replaced the pads and rotors on my new to me 96 and it went very slowly. Part of the problem was I couldn't find any GOOD you tube vids on changing later model C4 brakes. It seems most of the vids focused on early model C4's.
Im old and weak with poor vision and I struggled getting the new pads to "spring" in place into the calipers. Maybe when I was younger it would have been easier. Back in the day I had an 86 and a 94 but I don't recall if I did any brake work. All the caliper mounting bracket bolts required heat persuasion for removal. The front pads look like they been replaced at one time and the rotors were loose.. The rear pads looked original and the rotors required a lot of heat and banging before they gave it up. I gravity bleed the fluid during this time. Anyway, the rotors look good and the car brakes well. On to the next job.
I move much slower now so a 30 minuet job now takes 90. When you add in the usual polish and cleaning and allow for coffee brakes and sometimes a nap the day is pretty well shot. But it still is a fun day (except for the ones with broken bolts)
