Default 1989 C4 Corvette Un-explained wires

I recently purchased a 1989 C4 Corvette, when I looked behind the driver's seat there was a jumble mess of wires and other miscellaneous stuff. I don't believe it comes factory like how it looks but I just wanted to get some opinions before I start messing around and bulling wires out. It looks like someone tried to wire lights or subs or horns to the car but gave up and left it all behind the driver's seat. I want to pull them all out and start the build fresh but could not find anything on it being "factory" like that. Any opinions would help, Thank you!

Wow. Just... wow!

not factory. good luck.

Get yourself a Factory Service Manual (FSM), a multimeter and some good glasses.

Looks to be car alarm and maybe a “power window valet” unit. Nothing should be in the cubby behind the driver seat other than the ABS snd FX3 module if equipped. And passenger side should be empty.

Disconnect the power to the assembly and see if everything works?

My car is a '93, but I've never seen GM use a yellow extention cord while wiring a vehicle. Honestly, it's just too expensive. They get wire and that cheap fabric tape much much cheaper.

There may be wire alterations done beyond what you're looking at. Id search the car to find any added horns, speakers, alarms and remove them all. You also determine what works/doesnt work such as stock horn, speakers, lights etc. It may be challenging but Id remove every inch of that's rat nest.

As bad as it looks, I'll bet most of it still works. Back in the day, alarm and remote start systems required auxiliary relays to do the "switching", as the solid state outputs couldn't carry the current. That's what those are. That they are labeled shows the installer took the time to leave clues as to what things are in case he or someone else had to come back later and figure out what he had done. My hunch is that the 'installer' was the car's owner at the time.

I'd begin by finding the other end of the yellow #4 main power wire that goes to the stud marked +12V. Disconnect that, and verify that everything indicated on the labels still works.

You'll have to follow every bundle of add-on wire out of the compartment to where it ends up interfaced to the car's wiring and restore any severed car wires, or insulate any 'taps'. The window modules may have wires into the doors, perhaps not. You'll be under both sides of the dash. It is difficult to tell if there was a Remote Start incorporated into that install, but if there is there are several critical circuits involved with a RS that should be verified and restored, probably at the ignition switch.

It's easy to 'rip it all out'. Tracing out, finding the modifications, and restoring the integrity of the original wiring is where skill and patience are required.

Wow.
