Default 1992 Tune Up Time

What would be a good spark plug, wires and a Opti Spark for my 1992 Base model LT1

Been doing some research on this myself. This looks like the best option in my opinion, many good reports on their opti-Spark units...

Have you done plugs and wires on a 92 before? I would recommend removing the serpentine belt, getting a ps puller and pull the ps pulley (a pretty easy job with the puller). Then consider removing the brake lines from the master cylinder. I did the plugs and wires on my 92 first. A week later the idler pulley went out and I had to remove the ps pulley. I kicked myself for how easy it was to remove/install and all the room wide open for the plug wires. Next week my power booster went out. Kicked myself again for how easy that job was and was able to get to the plugs and wires under that.
For recommendations on plug wires stick with factory wires. Most aftermarket ones are the wrong length. The wires run through such a maze that if they’re too fat or too long they’ll touch something hot and burn/arc. If your car is missing any of the clips invest in those too. They’re pretty brittle at this age. The clips are a must to keep the wires from burning. When I got my 92 most clips were gone. It looked like a xmas tree under my hood with it running in the dark.
For the opti, if you don’t have problems don’t mess with it. The opti does nothing for tuning. All timing is done through the car’s computer. The opti just sends an on/off signal. As long as it works there is absolutely no gains.
For plugs the basic copper gives better performance but only last 30k miles. The iridium last much longer and probably are just as good as copper. People will debate plugs just as much as oil. I just bought an 03 Silverado 8.1l with 180k miles. It had its original iridium plugs still.

The job is tight, take your time and it will be fine. You did not say if there was a problem or code set behind your work. If the Opti is going bad I recommend Petris unit mention above. A crappy unit from one of the well known parts houses (installed by previous owner) failed and I researched all the options including reading every review before going with Petris. Not the least expensive but the customer service interaction before and after sale along with the product quality have made me a fan.

Note: if you do replace and yours is OEM do not throw it away. The sensor is quite valuable even if Opti failing.
