I just purchased a 33k all original 93 40th anniversary coupe. I knew the speakers were not working tested everything and it came down to bad amplifiers. I took them all out and overnighted FedEx them to Bose Central in Florida to have them rebuilt as some people had suggested on here.
Well FedEx got the package to Daytona Beach but it’s never left the facility there and they have no delivery date. I have filed a claim and they were insured thankfully. I tried to find a number today to contact Bose Central and ask my card be refunded since the items had been lost. Well their website is now down. I hope it’s just coincidence and they aren’t out of business!😳
So here is my dilemma, I want to keep everything looking stock. I know I can buy rebuilt ones on Ecklers for $750. That seems pretty pricey and if anyone else knows a better place please let me know. The other option is to replace the speakers but I know that they won’t just work with the head unit and CDM. Is there an adapter that can plug into the CDM? I want to keep the speakers in the same location and factory looking. I really don’t know if this is even an option is why I’m asking.
If there is a way to add Bluetooth to the factory head unit through the CDM is a bonus if anyone knows how that could be done.
Hi - I had one bad amp in my '95 when I got it. I bought a used driver rear speaker/amp from FParts on Ebay (AKA Contemporary Corvette) for $99. Fixed the problem instantly. I told myself I'd eventually get my bad one rebuilt. I haven't done it yet. I'll probably wait until I have two or four to send at a time. Meanwhile, I found this a while back. I didn't want to modify my original CDMs so I tried these... https://www.ebay.com/itm/20529156581...mis&media=COPY
Works perfectly, just plug in the new one, then you have Bluetooth music - it does not allow voice calls, and I don't care about that... I just wanted the music with the stock Bose.
My Bose system had been butchered before I got my 88, so I don't know exactly how they look. It probably is different in the 93s too. But, from looking at my 88 FSM, it seems to me that you could conceivably wire in a small (100watt) mono amp at each speaker. There is already power, ground, and low-level input wires. You'd maybe need to splice on an RCA plug but that totally doable. Small mono amps are quite cheap.
