I am ready for new brake pads in my 1992 conv....question is what type and manuf. for normal street driving . I read from a forum member that Raybestoes PG Plus are a good brand..but noticed the Raybestoes front shoes are one solid pad while the stock has a two pad design (groove cut midway in pad). I assume this is to prevent brake noise. Is it ok to use the solid pad design instead of the two piece?
Other corvette shops sell Wagner, Hawk ...Napa. The list goes on.
Can you share your experiences what pads you would reconmend... and is the one piece front pad (like Raybestoes) going to work ok with out excessive noise or other problems.....
Re: Replacement brake pads - Which ones?? (Jbferra)
This is one of those questions you will probably get a ton of opinions. I was wondering the same thing several months back, I took the recommendation to go with "Performance Friction" because they have less brake dust. Several months later I can honestly say that they actually do seem to have less brake dust than the ones I took off, and they have vertually no squeakes.

I tried the PFC brakes and they squealed like crazy. I was not happy until I spent the cash and bought the GM pads from my local dealer. They were very pricey, but worth every cent!

:withstupid:
I just got some performance friction from autozone and they have a lifetime warranty when they wear out you just bring them back and they give you new ones for free....
if yours squeak try takin them off and puttin some of that cheap pad grease you can get at autoparts on the backsides of them that should fix all your squeaking problems.......
Re: Replacement brake pads - Which ones?? (Wheelman)
I did mine earlier this year with Hawk HPs from Vette Brakes. I like the pads, but I do have a low speed squeal. It's irritating enough that I plan on pulling the pads off and doing a Disc Quiet treatment to the pad backs. If you go with Hawks they do a good job stopping and dusting is moderate. However, I strongly recommend you treat them with some anti-squeal.

I have the AZ PFZ's and they squeal when warm, suck when cold or wet, grab when hot, and offer too much dust in my opinion. But, I still like them and will get my third set when these wear out. I wore the first set out in about 18months. 2nd set was free of charge. Mine are fronts by the way. That might make a difference.
Get the backing paper that the dealers use for the squeal problem. I didn't think of that and will be doing it later on as a test. Have tried two different brands of disc-quiet and neither has worked for me and my driving habits.
Replace the pins when you do the pads. This also allows for the squealing. They do wear out and need attention. Dont' forget the anti rattle clips when you install the new ones. :seeya
