So, as I get into "things' related to the partially disassembled engine on my LT-1, I'm giving serious thought to buying an exact replacement crate motor. I believe my existing engine is stock. And the crate motor will be stock.
So, my question is...will anything need to be done relative to the car's computer. Or will this be simply plug and play.? Engine goes in. Existing stuff is plugged in or reconnected. And I turn the key and it starts?
Howdy LeMans Master! You may be right about availability as I'm finding out. I had a "remanufactured" company identified as having my LT-1 long block "In Stock" but when I called them, they haven't had one to sell since 2020. So, their ad was a bit misleading.
I know that this is not exactly what you are looking for however these folks have been building Gen-2 LT1 crate engines for many years and have had a good rep for a long time. Might be useful just as a reference. You might consider calling Chad and talk about exactly what you want and get his price ... https://golenengineservice.com/lt1-performance-engines/
Thank you for the link. But that company requires that I send them my engine as a long block so that they can rebuild it. I'm not interested in that type of service. Its either a remanufactured crate motor or I'll rebuild it myself.
I’ve wondered this question myself, in case my lt1 catastrophically fails. Not reassuring to know LT1 replacements aren’t available. Id personally would switch to an EFI gen 1 sbc.
seems like there’s too much hassle/cost for an LS swap, especially with a zf6
good luck on your search

Can you explain what the difference is between remanufacturing your engine or someone else's? Thanks, Dan
Time, distance, cost to ship, trust in the shipping carrier, trust in/reputation of the "remanufacturer".
If all I want is a rebuilder of MY motor, I'll look locally. But, if it comes to a rebuild, Ill do it myself. As I have in the past.
It seems like all the things you fear would exist with anyone selling a crate motor. I agree that it would be better to do locally or yourself if you have the time. Dan

Trust is not the same as fear. I'm good. And I have the time. I'm retired.
