Thanks for all of your prior input pertaining to the B&M amd Hurst short throw shifters. I went with the Hurst and what an improvement. I did not remove the exhgaust system prior to installation. The old shifter came out with minimal trouble. The new one was a PITA. the reason why they say to remove the exhaust is that it is almost impossible to re-install the little drift pin in the shifter linkage. First of all you can't hit it straight and it is almost impossible to make sure that the shaft holes are lined up. I managed but as I stated before it was a PITA. If you plan on installing a new shifter, remove the exhaust.
If the exhaust was removed, it would have been a lot simpler to line up the drive pin and drive it back in. It may not have been necessary to completely remove it.
just drop the front down and swing it out of the way. I probably spent 90 minutes and lost 3 layers of skin installing the pin with the exhaust in my way. If you decide to install one and leave the exhaust in place, make sure that there aren't any little children around. I am sure that a few choice automobile repair words will be muttered..Good Luck :
