Hey, I'd just like to tell everyone that I just bought some Hedman hedders from summit part number 68440 i think. the ones with OUT emissions hook up. These are just painted full length headers. Went on in a snap! EASY. SO much easier than I had expected. I had my Hammer and poopiee ready. Only thing is the #4 cyl plug is hard to get to. OH WELL. I love these headers. also the right bank front tube Cyl 2 is close to the Upper A arm. All in all I recommend! Anyone want some stock L98 Manifolds??? 70K, FL car, great shape.
Do they tie into your existing exhaust system easily. Main cat still in place? How much louder is the car? Does it feel like it runs much different? If you don't mind my asking, how much are they? CRUZ 86
Cool, I've been thinking about getting some for mine. How long did it take you to install? I've put headers in many old mopars and they were a PITA! Hopefully these are easier.
$109.99set. They're not ceramicoated, but hey if paint makes you go faster then you must of graduated from Honda high. :D They have a typical 3 bolt flange. No it does not tie into the factory exhuast...nor would i want it to. Just unbolt your manifolds and throw everything away. theres not 1 part on the factory exhuast worth a rats azz. run these Headers, and get 2.5" flanges b/c they come with 2.25" flanges....and then run true dual 2.5" mandrel into 40series flowmasters. and weld in a H pipe. That way you dont use any factory exhuast stuff. the factroy manifolds are restrictive as could be. POS. :skep: dam chevy....you messed up on them... :skep:
Depends are your ability level. But they took me about 3-4 hrs, 6pack of Coors Light, and i still need to get my 2.5" flanges and weld up my exhuast. installing them was enough for one Sat morning....i had Supra turbo things to do.:) NO HAMMERS! no bagning these things. just remove the starter, and one of the plugs u gotta put in with a open end 5/8" wrench. GOOD LUCK.

YES i agree the Headman headers worked good! the only thing is if you do buy them pay the extra to get them coated i burned up so many wires with these headers so i had to go to the extreme 9000 wires! and in the summer my car runs hot hot in the motor compartment...you would think the car would catch on fire! so when i pull my motor i am going to get them coated! But other then that they helped out alot and they sound tuff tuff!
I had a set on my car for a year. they were coated and I heat wrapped them. I could touch them 20 minutes after shut down this way. I used Jacobs ceramic spark plug boots because of my AFR heads, the spark plugs were really close to the headers and melted normal rubber boots.
They died a year later. They hit on every speed bump. I think they needed to remove about 2" from them so they could clear the ground. Maybe it is just my set up. I cant find the leak in them, but I can hear it, and the O2 is crazy, making the car run bad. I think I might of bent a flange.
My Hedmans, also #68440, went into my 87 fairly easy. I'm happy with them overall. I cut the stock frony Y and mated that to the headers. Right now that little piece of Y pipe is all that remains of the stock exhaust system. The only problem I ran across was the #8 header pipe was so close to the evaporator housing that it started to burn the housing within minutes of starting the engine. I already had them coated at this point (my bad) so instead of dealing with the headers, I had John at PHP re-shape the evaporator housing. I have Taylor boots for the plug wires and that leaves very little room to reach my hands in there. Less room than I had with the stock manifolds.
Hmm..I'd imagine the Hedman's would be good for torque too, cuz instead of 1.75" they're 1.60". I'll check into the ones with the AIR tubes. May have to get them, and have my factory Y mated onto them.
