Default C4 with L88

Hi guys
I'm looking at doing a deal for this 84 with an L88 and Nash 4sp. I'm unfamiliar with the engine but what i gather about the L88 is they're a 427 that was used in the late 60s Corvettes
Can anyone enlighten me about the L88 like was there something special about it?

Looks like a L98 small block. Stock engine in mid 80’s Vettes.

I agree. Unless they went to the trouble of adding the exhaust EGR and AIR stuff on there, I would bet that is just a regular L98.

But the accessories do look unique.

If L88 or other BB the valve covers would have 7 bolt perimeter retention bolts. Does car run and drive?

The L88 was definitely a special engine but the engine pictured is not an L88 or a Chevy big block but probably some variation of a Chevy small block.

That makes sense. The L83 engine code is what came stock in the 84 Vette. It's a 350. I'm sorry to say, IMO, it's not very desirable. The 1987 - 1991 L98s, on the other hand, are desirable. Improvements include factory roller cam, "fast burn" aluminum heads with 10:1 compression and a 1 piece rear main seal. The L98s TPI induction system, when tuned properly, put out respectable power and torque capable of low 13 1/4 mile times in the Vette. The engine can also easily be converted to carburetion.
