well, I've got a 2.0 60ft and with the 150 HP shot, I'm sure I could use a rebuild on my tranny, I'm having issues at cruising speed with the rpm higher than it used to be, so it's either a torqe converter lockup issue or the clutch packs in my tranny are gone. I'm not sure if something in the engine needs to be redone either (ie fried piston rings???) The 120mph time slips are running 12.8 times and only shooting nitrous after the 1-2 shift. I don't let off of the nitrous during my shifts so that may not help. If you've got any thoughts as to why else please chime in.

This is why I am perplexed. For an extra $40 you can get an SLP converter. When the cost of labor is factored in (free in my case...but after doing this install a second time...I digress) why go cheap?

My S-10 TC experience:

- I installed this TC in my Impala, based on the advice of that very same HERD article mentioned in an above post.

- My brake stall speed immediatly after install was ~2900.

- Within two months it was ~3500 RPM.

- When I posted my experience several other Impala owners piped up and reported the same experience.

- When I emailed the author of that article he replied that he no longer recommended that TC.

- This TC is designed for a low torque V6, not the Vette's 350 lbs*ft (stock). A V8 will shred this converter.

- I purchased an SLP converter for $300, the brake stall speed was 2500 at install, after 38K miles it's still 2500.

- The first time I installed a TC it toook over 8 hours, the second time I did it in 4 hours, both time on jackstands, by myself, no helper (just bragging).

Eric

I'll bet anything that the SLP convertor is somekind of GM convertor.

The 12" convertor that Lingenfelter sells comes in an AC Delco box, guess who makes that convertor?

Another thing I don't understand is , how does the stall speed change after a few months like you say it does ? Unless you change the torque output of your motor, the convertor will flash to the same point every time.

I don't know how that happen, I assume the fins were bending. I didn't add any mods during the time the stall speed slipped up to 3500. I wasn't the only one that reported this problem. Don't take my word, email the author of the article and ask him if he still recommends the S-10 converter. He'll write something about how when he recommended that converter GM was shipping brand new units, now all the units are rebuilds, he claims that the problem.

It would be interesting to hear what kind of brake stall speed some of the forum members with the S-10 TC are reporting.

Perhaps, but I've never heard of a single complaint about the SLP converter, I know one guy who ran low 12s hundreds of times in his 4400 lbs Impala.

If you go with the S-10 converter the worst thing that'll happen is you'll have to drop your trans again and install a good TC. Most folks don't run very often at the strip so they don't really notice anything wrong. If I had my act together, I would have purchased a Hughes for $400, would have been the same out of pocket expense as an S-10/SLP combo.

Of course, if I didn't go with the S-10 converter I would have never had the chance do the trans drop a second time to hone my wrenching skills :)

i have just recently completed the installation of the GM converter. mine was a rebuilt unit as well, so if i expereince any problems, ill let you guys know.

track testing will probably be next Fri due to the blizzard were getting on the east coast now (and delaying the track opening by one week). more than likely ill have some results on the 28th of Feb. im looking to drop into the 12s with this converter, and my TPIS cold air, over my previous best times (see sig).

I ordered one from Jo Built!!!

$175 shipped to my door COD!!!

Its a GM Rebuild which he guarantees for 90 days because of the custom stall of 2500-2600. If I would have ordered the factory stall he warrantees it for life.

I hope your recommendation is good, if not, its just $175, but hey, I still hope its good!!

Now I hope this thing performs well also instead of just having a higher stall speed like the S10 TC.
