Default False speedometer reading

Hey guys,

88 Coupe, 700R4

When I initially turn on my car the speedometer will say about 30 for a split second, and the RPM readout will match it. Because of this I doubt that one or the other is bad since I believe they're nothing more than independent displays.

My actual RPM is much lower than it says, and of course I'm in park so I'm not going 30 mph. It only does this for a split second when I first start the car, and then never again. I don't have much experience with the VSS but I've heard that may cause it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

 I think this may be normal. It seems to me that when I first turn key on, my graphic sedo and tach also are up above zwero and then come down. I wait about 5 sec before starting so....I really don't pay attention to the gauges until I start it

Next time I start the car (this weekend), I'll check this out and try to respond

My dash does that too. It goes nuts. I notice it more on hot days
-call me crazy-.

Another thing I found was when I did the wheel bearings. The ABS sensors had alot metal particles in them. New bearings had clean cogs and I cleaned the sensors. MPH readings were much more stable afterwards.
