Whelppppp,
my turn for fuel issues on my '96. It died suddenly last night and I had it towed home. No humming from the pump, I wasn't actually too surprised by it. It had been getting a little slow to start like the fuel pressure was low.
I haven't had a chance to do much yet. I was planning to check for voltage at the connector first and go from there.
there. I sure am glad for the pump location!

Got back into town yesterday and was finally able to check the pressure. 3 PSI when the key is first turned on, then instantly drops to 0 PSI. About 6 PSI when cranked, runs badly for a few seconds, then dies and drops immediately to zero. It does make good oil pressure. I'm going to pull the pump tonight.
Wellllll, mystery solved. As I was taking it apart, I could see that I wasn't the first person to tear into it. When I slid the assembly out I could see that I was looking at a brand new pump..... then I saw this... a split hose, caused by misalignment. Mystery solved

One thing I’d recommend if you end up swapping it, go with a quality AC Delco or Delphi pump. Some of the cheap kits on eBay or Amazon look the part but don’t last
This one is looks exactly like Delphi that I just bought. But, it didn't fit properly, I think that stress caused the fuel line to split so I installed the Delphi. I fit perfectly and was snug. Never buy those $30 Amazon pumps....

A new fuel pump even the most expensive is cheaper than a tow truck 😳 Is a no brainer, think of the inconvenience embarrassment being stranded again. How impressed would the little woman be 🙄 Trust me it will fail on the hottest day, or in the rain at night at the worst possible place. Don't tempt fate replace it before it bites you in the *** Its an item with a finite lifetime not worth the $30 to $60 they cost just in peace of mind at least. I say if you dont know how old it is replace it, i have never had one last more than 10 years on a driven only on weekends vette, had three fail on my 85 in the 20 years I had it. One only lasted a few years, yes you may get warnings noise stall here and there others work perfectly till they fail .... like a light bulb they can work one moment not the next. Remember your life can be on the line if a breakdown can leave you stranded on a highway at night... I'm sure you would value your life or car more than trying to save a miserable $100 maximum ?!? 😲
Preventative maintenance is all about avoiding experiencing C, when just going from A to B 😲👍
