Hi,
Hope someone can help. I searched the forums and this problem is a little different. I had a problem a few years ago and switched the fuel pump and that fixed the problem at the time.
The problem I have now is once it hits 200 degrees it stall but you can start right away. If you get close to high temp and try to drive back or forward it will stall. Only code is 12.
This is what has been done fuel pump about 3 years ago fuel pressure 45 psi.as of this post
new wire, cap, rotor, plugs 2 years ago
new fuel filter and air filter also 2 years ago
o2 sensor 4 years ago
smoke tested the car no leaks.
all injectors test out between 16 to 16.1 ohms
just put in new iac and cleaned tb today still stalling.
mileage driven 5k in 4 years
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Okay so today I switched out the icm and let the car idle to 200 degrees and it did not stall. I moved the car forward and back in the drive way and it still did not stall. At this point I took the car around the block. The acceleration felt a little sluggish but I figured I have not drove it so maybe it needed to run a little. I got a half a mile into the drive and it it just stalled out again. I have no advanced notice of it stalling no hesitation its just like shutting off a light switch. The car was at 190 degrees and it will start right away no waiting. I tried to limp it home because it will keep stalling but the good news it it starts right away.
The bad news it does not give me a error code just 12. Does anyone sell a scanner for the obd1 board that is good. I looked for a tech1 or 1a but did not find any for sale used on eBay or Craigslist. I would like to get a look at the sensor before I start changing things out. I was going to try another o2 sensor but it was changed and the mass airflow even though it was changed I have had them fail on me before.
I am open to other suggestions the car is older and the parts are original so I know things should be replaced.
Also forgot to say that the tps test out I believe in the acceptable range. 4.99v on line wire and signal wire min .58v to max 3.95 at wot.
I checked because of the sluggish throttle.
I still think electrical failure due to the 'like an off switch' behavior. But I am going to switch to a failing fuel pump. Do you have access to a pressure gauge that could be laid where you could see it while driving. My guess is the pressure is going to drop at stall.
Yes I can check the fuel pressure but it will not happen for another day or so. It is raining now and is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. I will check as soon as the weather clears up and report back.
Thanks
Okay pretty sure that I have found the problem.
1. The icm did stop it from stalling out at idle.
2 the stalling out when moving has to do with the fuel pump relay keeping my fingers crossed.
I put in a new 02 sensor because it was out of spec and when I tried to start the car it’s was hard starting but did start. I let it idle and it did not stall.
When i went to move it it stalled, would not restart and through code 32 and 54.
I looked at the fuel pressure first and now I have no pressure. The fuse was good and at this point I looked at the relay and look what I found.
