Default Brake pads uneven...

My right rear brake pads are about half as thick as my left side  I'm thinking this is not good or normal, right? Is there anything in particular that will cause this?

Also, don't know if this is related but, when I'm going 60+ mph and use anything but very light brake pressure the whole car shakes, it doesn't shake the steering wheel but feels more like it's shaking in the back. I was thinking maybe wheel balance but now that I saw the brake pads it's got me wondering.

I checked the rear hubs at 9/3 and 12/6 and neither have any play at all.

Any ideas would be great.

You may have a sticking caliper back there or possibly the rotors are out of round. Also be sure the Parking brake set up isnt sticking or binding.Usually a braking vibration is the rotors are not "true" and may need to be turned again or replaced.Thats pretty much where Id look first.Sometimes,it can be a faulty brake hose at the caliper but its rare.HTH somewhat.

I agree that a sticking caliper is probably the were problem. It can also cause the brakes to overheat the rotor and cause warping. You can buy rebuilt calipers with or without brake pads. Get your rotors turned and checked for minimum thickness. Make sure to lube all the sliding parts with a high temp grease made for brake systems.

A sticking caliper is probably the best answer, but many other issues could be at work here, here are some thoughts:

-improper initial rotor finish during the last brake service
-insufficient pad bedding / initial break in
-tire dressing sprays can wreak havoc on pad wear characteristics
-brake flex hose starting to fail
-wheel / hub bearing troubles
-to much "brake torquing" - posi unit may favor right rear during such activity

Check the caliper first...
