Default Ac issues 1993 c68

Hello everyone, I recently bought a 1993 corvette that has been converted to r134a, I am trying to use the ac but the compressor very rarely spins, the pressure at the drier is around 55psi. I looked for codes and got code 09 on the c68 system, I resent it to try again while still at 55psi and I got code 09 again any idea why it would say low pressure still?

Is the compressor running when you are measuring the low side pressure? If not, you are measuring the static pressure in the system and 55psi may indeed be low. You may have to bypass the low pressure switch to get the compressor to run then see what the pressure is, and add Freon until the pressure on the low side reads 40-45 depending on the ambient temperature and the compressor runs continuously. You cannot add Freon to the system unless the compressor is running. And you also have to first disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer because the compressor will not go on if there is a 09 code.
To bypass the low pressure switch, disconnect the connector from it and connect a wire between the 2 terminals in the plug end leading forward to the compressor. After you get some Freon into the system, reconnect the plug and the compressor will stay running and then fill it up to the proper pressure.
And once you get it running, look for where it was leaking, otherwise you will soon be doing this again.

thank you, I eventually figured it out yesterday and all I had to do was just clear the code and bypass like you said and I’ll keep my eye out for a leak anywhere I just got the car 2 days ago so I’m just going through and fixing a lot of the issues before I start driving it more
